Alabama's 2-1-1 First Call for Help is a free service provided to link anyone to the proper federal, state and local health and human services agencies nationwide. Etowah County's 2-1-1 Director, Susan Carter says First Call for Help has quality, trained staff ready to serve at a moment's notice. The 2-1-1 service started taking calls for the Etowah County First Call for Help back in 2006. Prior to that, First Call for Help had been providing a similar service since the nineteen seventies. Last year, the Gadsden 2-1-1 office offered more than six thousand referrals from callers in Etowah and Cherokee Counties.
