(07-27-10) One of college football’s most noteworthy national championships could be coming down to Auburn. The Football Writers Association of America is currently debating on giving its 2004 title to the Tigers in the wake of Southern California’s scandal which vacated its wins. The Football Writers Association has awarded the Grantland Rice Trophy every year since 1954. The Tide won it last year, and executive director Steve Richardson says Auburn is a heavy favorite for the 2004 title. Auburn finished the season undefeated with a win over Virginia Tech in the Sugar Bowl, meanwhile USC stomped Oklahoma (55-19) in the BCS title game. Richardson says the move would be unprecedented, but called 'it an unprecedented situation'.
