Violent Crime Reduction/Calhoun County

Friday, November 8, 2013

Calhoun County District Attorney Brian McVeigh says his county is partnering with federal prosecutors to target violent crime in the area. Agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives held a news conference in Anniston today announcing the campaign.

The idea surfaced a couple of years ago following the shooting death of Anniston Police Officer Justin Sollohub.  U.S. Attorney Joyce Vance has met with local police chiefs and Sheriff Larry Amerson. The Special Agent in charge of ATF operations in Alabama talks about their main concerns in Calhoun County.

They say in order to make this campaign successful; they need the public’s help. They are asking members of the community with concerns or information about violent crimes to call the Jefferson County CrimeStoppers line. That number is 205-254-7777. Calling this number will redirect your information to federal agents.
