Chief Ladiga Trail Work/Jacksonville
Those of you using the stretch of the Chief Ladiga Trail that runs through Jacksonville will likely notice some changes. The city has removed the 5 parking spaces located where the trail crosses Highway 204. When the trail first opened, the south end was not completed; it started at Highway 204 and went north. But since the south end has been opened, Mayor Johnny Smith explains that the parking spaces in that area are not needed. The city is now working on a spur between the train depot and Jacksonville-Alexandria Road. They call it the Creekside Trail and are hoping it will eventually lead visitors into town. The mayor says city leaders recognize the significance of the Chief Ladiga Trail and they are trying to keep their stretch as user-friendly as possible.
