The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office is bustling with pre-thanksgiving activity. They held their 9th annual “Fry Your Turkey Day” outside the jail. Sheriff Larry Amerson joined jail employees and other volunteers to fry hundreds of turkeys for law enforcement families and others in the community. Chief Deputy Matthew Wade spearheads the event and he says, it makes him feel good to do this each year. Some of the fried turkeys are donated to foster families through the Alabama Baptist Children’s Homes. Area director Ted Embry says Wade began this tradition years ago and he continues to bless those foster families. By the end of the day, the group had deep fried nearly 250 turkeys for the community.
