Home Energy Grants

The state is offering to help low-income families this winter. Governor Bentley is awarding $39.3 million in grants to assist with home energy costs. The grants are for the elderly, people with disabilities and families with young children. 22 Alabama community action agencies are awarding the resources. The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grants. Eligibility is based on income, family size and available resources. The Community Action Agency of Northeast Alabama is getting more than $3 million. That agency serves Blount, Cherokee, DeKalb, Jackson, Marshall and St. Clair counties. Community Action of Etowah County is getting nearly $900,000. And, nearly $1,9 million dollars is going to the Community Action Agency of Talladega, Clay, Randolph, Calhoun and Cleburne counties.
