A nonprofit working to stop violence and help those who become victims in east Alabama is getting a financial boost. Governor Robert Bentley announced today grants totaling more than $97,000 awarded to 2nd Chance Inc. The Anniston-based facility will use the money to support the Sexual Violence Awareness Project. The non-profit group presents information to students, teachers and others in Calhoun, Cherokee, Cleburne, Etowah, Randolph and Talladega counties to prevent crimes and increase awareness of help that is available to sexual violence victims. The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grants from funds made available by the U.S. departments of Justice and Health and Human Services.
