Joshua Russell Sentenced to Death in Anniston
The man convicted of killing Anniston Police Officer Justin Sollohub 2 years ago, learns his punishment. Calhoun County Circuit Judge Brian Howell has given Joshua Russell the death penalty. Officer Sollohub’s mother spoke with TV24 just minutes after the sentencing hearing. Prosecutors said Russell shot Sollohub during a foot chase in 2011. Russell’s trial was moved to Lee County due to pre-trial publicity. In September, the jury convicted him and recommended life in prison without the possibility of parole. However, Alabama law allows judges to override a jury’s recommendation for sentencing.
