Tax Season Delay

The tax season is upon most Americans. This tax season begins with the announcement of an impending setback. Taxpayers can expect to experience a 10 day delay in filing returns and recovering a refund. The Internal Revenue Service announced the shorter tax filing season is caused by the government shut down in October 2013. Officials caution taxpayers to still file their returns by April 15, 2014. But the IRS will not be accepting returns until January 31, 2014. The IRS will not process refunds until they receive a return. Officials say it’s best to E-File. Your paper tax returns cannot be processed until January 31, 2014. The delay doesn’t stop the taxpayer from preparing the tax return. The IRS said, the delay will allow the service to test its tax programming systems before taxpayers start filing their returns.
