Piedmont's Polar Plunge

Tuesday, January 7, 2014

This isn’t exactly the type of weather you would normally associate with taking a swim.

But, that’s exactly what some folks in Piedmont did over the weekend.  The city’s new aquatic center was the site of the first annual polar plunge for Venecia’s Foundation. The participant’s event paid money to brave the frigid waters. Piedmont Mayor Bill Baker was among those who took the plunge for a good cause.  Venecia’s Foundation has been incorporated since May. Since that time, founder and four-time cancer survivor, Venecia Butler says she’s made more than 100 gift bags filled with all sorts of goody’s for chemo patients. She’s also handed out more than $3,000 in gas cards.
