District 10 State Senator Phil Williams met with members of the board of directors of The Chamber of Gadsden and Etowah County today. The topic of the meeting was the future of Sunday alcohol sales in Gadsden. The divisive topic has been a hot-bed issue for the community in recent weeks. Senator Williams says that he asked for today’s meeting to clear up some misrepresentations that have been floating around the community. The Chamber’s executive director Heather New says that the meeting was a good way to open some new lines of communication.The senator has asked for an economic impact study that is currently underway, and says that he has no plans to block a bill allowing a public vote on the issue.The Gadsden City Council, The Chamber Board and the city’s Commercial Development Board have all passed resolutions asking the legislative delegation to approve a bill allowing residents to vote on the issue in the municipal election in August.
