Bond Denied

Saturday, January 11, 2014

Residents across Calhoun County have reported hearing loud explosion type noises today. According to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, there’s no reason for concern.  They say the Depot has been performing routine ordinance explosions. And in Etowah County, a judge denies bond for a woman charged with running her granddaughter to death. During today's hearing, Circuit Judge William Ogletree also set a June 23 trial date for Joyce Hardin Garrard.  She's charged with capital murder for the 2012 death of her granddaughter Savannah Hardin.  Prosecutors say Garrard made the 9-year-old run for three hours as punishment for lying about eating candy.  The child collapsed and died three days later at a hospital.
