An 18-year old Attalla woman who was the subject of a large search on Saturday afternoon is facing Child Endangerment charges. The incident started when a family member discovered Katie Halbert’s 2-year old child wandering, unattended, outside of a home in the Ivalee community. The child was holding a suicide note the mother had written. The family member called 9-1-1 and the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office began an extensive search for Halbert. She was later found, unharmed, in a nearby wooded area and is currently being held in the Etowah County Detention Center on the Child Endangerment charges. The child is in the care of the Etowah County Department of Human Resources.
