The Alabama Department of Education releases its updated list of failing public schools as defined by the state’s Accountability Act. Students attending schools on the list can transfer to other non-failing public schools or to private schools. The department says five schools were added to the new list and four schools dropped off the list. The Alabama Accountability Act requires the department to compile the list each year. The new list of 76 schools will apply to the 2014-2015 school year. The list for the new school year is much like the one for 2013-2014 because schools are evaluated on their performance over several years. You can find the complete list at alsde.edu.
