New Camera System for Police Officers in Jacksonville

The Jacksonville City Council has approved the purchase of 23 wearable cameras for the city’s police department so police officers can have a video recording of all traffic stops, high speed chases, or other routine activities.

The council also authorized a three year contract with the cameras manufacturer to store video on a server for police to access when they need it. Jacksonville Council president Mark Jones says this can be a new method of accountability for the city’s police force and video can be used to determine the worthiness of any claims against the police department.
