Efforts continue to bring more fishing events to Weiss Lake. More than three dozen elected officials, community leaders and local anglers recently gathered in Cherokee County to talk about possible ways to promote the area. Organizer Daphne Rogers talks about what prompted her to start this effort. Those attending the meeting learned that Weiss Lake is one of the top in the state for bass fishing, but it was passed over for the Alabama Bass Trail Tournament due to lack of infrastructure in Cherokee County. More specifically, there just isn’t enough lodging in the area to support the number of visitors such a tourist event would bring to the area. Hosting a fishing tournament would pump hundreds-of-thousands of dollars into the local economy.
