A local school system gets approval to build a new school. The Jacksonville Board of Education voted Tuesday to build a new Kitty Stone Elementary School along the corner of George Douthit Drive and James Hopkins Drive. Board members said they are committed to re-purposing the old elementary school property. Some proposed future uses for the current Kitty Stone campus include using the site for a possible city hall, a future middle school, or as possible classrooms for Jacksonville State University. The Jacksonville school board has attained an architect to do the plan and work. The project has a proposed completion date of January 2016.
