Released From Jail
A woman charged with capital murder in 2013 is ordered to serve 24 months of unsupervised probation. Tonya Cate is accused of killing her adopted infant daughter. She has been in jail since March 2005. She pleaded guilty to manslaughter. She’s being released from jail after being given credit for time served. 16-month old Serena Cate died of blunt force trauma to the head. Tonya Cate was originally charged with capital murder in the 2003 death. District Attorney Jimmie Harp says evidence presented by the defense brought up reasonable doubt that could have compromised the case had it been presented to a jury.
