More than 300 Jacksonville State football fans, students and members of the media gathered at JSU Stadium to welcome new head football coach John Grass Thursday night.
Just 13 months ago Coach Grass decided to leave the high school ranks and join the college level as JSU’s offensive coordinator. He takes over as head coach after a very successful season as the Gamecocks offensive coordinator under Bill Clark. JSU enjoyed its most prolific year in school history totaling 6,637 yards and 528 points which beat the previous record by 107. He says he is more than excited to continue that success.
Grass had the opportunity to go to UAB with Coach Clark, but he says he feels like he was meant to stay with the program. That decision is important because it keeps the continuity of the program after last year’s success and the players agree.
With National Signing Day less than two weeks away, one of the first points of business will be finishing strong on the recruiting trail. Grass says about a third of the staff have stayed on board at JSU… The rest of the staff is expected to be filled out over the next few weeks.
