As the winter storm swept into the state on Tuesday, no one was exempt from the gridlock it caused. State Representative Mack Butler of Etowah County got caught in the storm as he tried to make his way to Montgomery for Tuesday's session. Butler says that he began running into trouble near the Hwy 31 exit on I-65, so he turned around and tried to get back home. That decision was the beginning of a 22 hour ordeal for the legislator. Once he finally made his way onto 459, Butler says that he encountered another shutdown between Hwy 280 and I-59 that last an additional several hours. The District 30 representative says that, while the 22 hour trip was an inconvenience, he was encouraged by the people he met and the kindness of strangers he witnessed. Butler says that he passed the time by posting and conversing with friend on Facebook where hundreds of people were following his progress on his trek home.
