After several days of fighting the snow, ice and cold - Gadsden residents gathered at the corner of 5th and Broad to warm up and shake off the cabin fever with a few bites of homemade chili. More than twenty of the city’s best chili chefs got started cooking their best recipes early on Saturday morning and by Noon, downtown was filled with the aroma of hot chili and hungry people waiting to get samples from their favorite contestants. You could find flavors from sweet to spicy and everything in between. After consuming large amounts of chili, the judges were able to determine the winners of this year’s chili cookoff. First Place was awarded to The Crimson Chilis from Mater’s Pizza. Frios Gourmet Pops came in second and the Red Hot Chili People from the Courtyard Café were third place. The People’s Choice award winner was a team called Ya Wanna Smell It.
