Houses Catch Flames in Alabama City

One home was fully involved and another partially on fire when Gadsden firefighters were called out this morning in Alabama City. The Fire Department was responding to a call of a structure fire in the 25-hundred block of Norris Avenue at about 8:45am. Assistant Fire Chief Jim Matlock says that an unoccupied home at 2501 Norris Avenue was fully engulfed in flames when his department arrived and that the fire had already spread to the home next door. Matlock sent out a call for additional help and it took six units about an hour to extinguish both fires. One house was completely destroyed – the other was badly damaged. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire has not been determined and the investigation is continuing.
