As local communities prepare for the cold weather, warming centers in our area open to provide warmth for those in need. Local shelters and other area agencies are lending a hand to shield community members from the severe weather. The Salvation Army on Noble Street will have a warming station open from 8:00 am until 4:00pm on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Salvation Army shelter is available all day every day for anyone who needs a place to stay overnight. The American Red Cross will also be providing warming stations in Calhoun and Etowah Counties. The Calhoun County warming station will be at the Oxford Civic Center. It opens today until Wednesday, February 12th at 5:00 pm. For Etowah County, The American Red Cross will have a warming shelter at First Baptist Church of Gadsden. It is open today until noon on Wednesday. A Heflin warming station will be open at the Heflin Civic Center. A Warming Shelter is opened at the Munford Volunteer Fire Department off of Hwy 21 in Munford. And, The Red Cross will also have warming shelters in St. Clair County. The Red Cross warming shelters will have cots and blankets. They are asking for assistance for perishable food items, monetary donations and toiletries.
