HB 87 Passes House

A bill that is intended to protect Alabama families in one of their most vulnerable moments passed the Alabama House of Representatives this morning. HB87 is sponsored by Representative K.L. Brown of Jacksonville and addresses abuses in the funeral business pertaining to pre-need burial policies. The bill seeks to clarify state law concerning the proper handling of pre-need funds and to protect families from unscrupulous operators. TV24 spoke to Representative Brown today about the bill. Representative Brown says that far too many families purchase pre-need funeral and burial plans, but when the time comes to use them, the money is no longer there and the policy is not being honored. The bill will now move to the State Senate for consideration.
