A portion of Cheaha State Park has reopened after the winter storm left behind major damage. According to park officials, the trails at the park are not ready for visitors. Heavy ice during the winter storm knocked down several power lines, making travel through the park unsafe. And, crews are still working to clean up the hazardous trees. Although, the trails, chalets, and cabins are closed until further notice; the restaurant, the hotel, the group lodge, and the country store are open to visitors. The park is holding a clean-up weekend for volunteers this coming weekend. So, if you can sweep, rake, or work a blower, your help is still needed. Call the park in advance for a schedule.
