There’s pending passage of legislation for a new abortion bill. The bill is in its third reading and has the sponsorship of many legislators, including Calhoun County’s Representative K.L. Brown. The bill would require a physician or other qualified person to provide prescribed materials to a woman at least 48 hours before the performance of an abortion. Representative K.L. Brown talked to TV24 about the bill’s implications. The physician or qualified person would provide the woman with a list of which agencies that offer assistance, adoption agencies, information on the development of the unborn child, methods and risks of abortion and childbirth, the father's obligations, and alternatives to abortion. This act shall become effective 30 days following its passage and approval by the Governor.
