Plea Deals

Guilty pleas have been entered by three defendants in a case involving rape and torture in Etowah County. District Attorney Jimmie Harp announced the pleas this afternoon in a case in which a 23-year old, mentally challenged woman was found handcuffed naked to a bed in 2011. 54-year old Rex Maurice Johnson and his wife, 43-year old Toni Renea Johnson pled guilty to two counts each of Rape in the First Degree, Sodomy in the First Degree and Sexual Torture. In accordance with their plea, each will spend 20 years in prison on each of the six counts. 28-year old Steven William Holder entered guilty pleas on two charges each of Assault in the Second Degree and Sexual Misconduct; as well as one count of Domestic Violence in the Second Degree. Holder was sentenced to a total of 20 years in the cases. Investigation of this case involved the Etowah County DA’s Office, the Gadsden Police Department and the James M. Barrie Center for Children.
