A former Gadsden State student is chosen for a prestigious national award. Toshiko Abe has been named as a recipient of the 2014 Outstanding Alumni Award from the American Association of Community Colleges. Abe attended Gadsden State in 1998 and 1999 before transferring to Jacksonville State then on to UAB. She eventually earned a Doctorate in Administrative Studies from the University of Illinois in Chicago. Abe currently serves as a deputy foreign minister for the Japanese government and is a member of its House of Representatives. She will receive her honor in a special ceremony scheduled for April 8 in Washington, DC.
