Capital Murder

Saturday, March 1, 2014

An Etowah County judge is refusing to move Joyce Garrard's capital murder trial to another county. Garrard is charged with the 2012 death of her granddaughter, Savannah Hardin. Prosecutors claim Garrard forced the girl to run for three hours as punishment for lying about eating candy. The 9-year-old girl collapsed and later died at a hospital. The defense asked for the change of venue due to extensive publicity surrounding the case. Her trial is set to begin on June 23 in Etowah County Circuit Court.
