Calhoun County Scams

The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office warns the community to beware of two telephone scams within the area. The Sheriff’s office says victims are getting calls from people claiming to be representatives of Publisher’s Clearing House Sweepstakes. The callers claim you have won a prize, but in order to claim the prize you must send money to them using Western Union. Once you send the money and they receive it, you never hear from them again. The second scam is one where the scammer calls and says an attorney is trying to collect an outstanding loan. They ask for personal information. Sheriff Larry Amerson reminds you to never give out personal information to strangers and if you are targeted, don’t talk to them on the phone.
