Etowah County’s fourth fatality in a single day comes on the same day that the Alabama Department of Public Safety issues a report saying that crash fatalities in the state are on the rise from 2013. According to preliminary crash data, State Troopers investigated accidents that resulted in 43 deaths in February. That number is up from 30 deaths in February of last year. 22 of those 43 victims were not wearing seatbelts. State Troopers say that something as simple as putting on your seat belt could be the difference between life and death in any traffic crash. Crash data from 2012 and 2013 show that 59 percent of fatal crash victims were *not* wearing a seatbelt. The Department of Public Safety urges you to *always* wear a seat belt when travelling in a vehicle.
