Community Garden in Anniston

On Saturday, volunteers came out to an old car wash site on 10th street with their gloves, wheel barrows, and hand held sledge hammers to help The Calhoun County Community Development Corporation bring a community garden in West Anniston closer to completion. The volunteers worked to prepare the above ground container box garden units. The Alabama Power Employee Service Organization was also there to lend a hand. The community garden will not only provide families with the opportunity to have a growing space; but organizations, and even businesses can take part. he U.S. Environmental Protection Agency awarded Anniston a portion of a $250,000 grant in 2013 to develop and build several community gardens in the downtown area. Later on in the spring, they will have a sign-up for people interested in gardening. The community garden already has a waiting list. For further information call 256-741-8557.
