2% Raise Legislation for Education Employees in Alabama

While at the Gadsden ribbon cutting for the Republican Party Headquarters Governor Robert Bentley commented that he still wants to give education employees the 2 percent pay raise he has recommended. But it looks like he may not be able to do so. The Republican Legislature has not approved the 2 percent raise legislation for two months. The governor can't amend the state education budget to legislate a 2 percent raise. He will need a separate bill to enact the raise. The Senate reduced the legislation to a one-time bonus of 1 percent for the 2014-2015 school year. The House Ways and Means- Education Committee put the Senate-passed bonus on hold.
