Childhood hunger is one of the most relevant issues faced by Alabama today. Studies show that in Alabama, one in four children suffers from not having enough to eat. And one Calhoun County woman wants to do her part to end childhood hunger. She’s collaborating with a national campaign by hosting a local bake sale. H&R Block employee, Tolisa Watkins, has partnered with Share Our Strength. Its campaign, No Kid Hungry is a movement to educate and empower low-income families to stretch their food budgets so their kids get healthy meals at home. She is determined to make sure Calhoun County kids get the healthy food they need, every day. The bake sale proceeds will ultimately go towards helping recruit summer meals sites, starting and improving school breakfast programs, and providing grants to the most innovative hunger-fighting organizations across the country so that they can purchase food and supplies. You can support the Block Baking 4 Kids bake sale by stopping by the H&R Block Oxford Office parking lot across from the Quintard Mall. That’s 645 Snow Street. The bake sale will be from 9:00AM until all the baked goodies are gone.
