Opt Out of Common Core Standards
A panel of state senators vote to allow school systems to opt out of Common Core standards adopted by the state Board of Education. Senate Bill 443 by Common Core calls for a moratorium on adopting further Common Core standards until at least 2017, though education officials say no more standards are in the works. It also lets local systems drop current math and English language standards and return to the previous ones. The bill now goes to the full Senate. If it passes in the Senate, the bill will still need to move through the House. Seven legislative days are left in the session.
