Senate Bill 354

The state Senate is still debating Senate Bill 354. The bill would allow people to carry pistols in their vehicles without permits. It did not have enough support to stop a Democratic filibuster and a call for a vote. If the bill passes the Senate it will have to pass the House as well. That will be decided on Tuesday. An amendment designed to protect sheriffs’ pistol permit fees was added to the bill. Current law requires that unless someone has a sheriff-issued concealed carry permit, their handgun must be unloaded and locked out of reach in a vehicle.
