How can you and your family be better prepared for the tornado and severe weather season? You can sign up for a new app that was created to help communities stay prepared. The Alabama SAF-T-Net app was made at the request of Governor Robert Bentley after catastrophic severe weather activity on April 27th, 2011. Baron Services of Huntsville stepped up and created the statewide alerting network and donated the entire system to the state of Alabama. Alabama SAF-T-Net is a highly personalized weather alert tool. Its strength is in its geo-specific notification technology. App users can customize up to four frequently traveled locations like home, work, or a child's school and they will only receive severe weather information for those specific locations. The service is available to all Alabamians at no cost. It includes text, email, voice and apps that allow for 2-way communication with emergency management. To sign up for Alabama SAF-T-Net go to their website at alabamasaftnet.com
