International Kiwanis President Visits in Gadsden

Kiwanis members from several East Alabama Kiwanis Clubs held a joint meeting with the Gadsden Club today to welcome a special visitor to the community. Gunter Gasser, the President of Kiwanis International, was today’s special speaker as part of his tour to visit Kiwanis clubs throughout the state. The president – who is from Austria – spoke to club members about what Kiwanis clubs are like in Europe, efforts to grow the Kiwanis presence around the world and about the organization’s current global campaign for children – the fight against Maternal Neo-Natal Tetanus. Kiwanis International has pledged $110 million to assist UNICEF in the fight against this disease and hopes to save the lives of 129 million mothers and their future babies in some of the poorest and most underserved parts of the world. Kiwanis has about 600,000 members - located in 80 nations around the world - who stage more than 150,000 service projects every year.
