apprehended just after noon today after officers from the Gadsden Police Department, the US Marshalls Service and the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office spotted Jones in a stolen car near the intersection of Meighan Blvd and 12th Street. Jones had escaped custody yesterday by taking advantage of some confusion during a bathroom break in Municipal Court in Gadsden. A Gadsden Police spokesperson confirms that shots were fired when they initially tried to apprehend Jones near the intersection of 12th and Gardner. Jones fled south on 12th Street, crossed Meighan Blvd and drove through the McDonalds parking lot before ramming a Marshalls Service vehicle at the corner of 12th Street and Malone Street. No one was injured in the shooting or the chase and Jones was taken into custody without further incident. Jones is being held in the Etowah County Detention Center. Charges concerning the stolen car and today’s incident are still pending. Gadsden Police officials did not identify the officers involved in the shooting and said that an internal review of the incident will be conducted.
