I59 Two Vehicle Crash Claims Man’s Life

A Rainbow City man dies in an early morning two-vehicle crash. According to Alabama State Troopers, Santos Reyes was killed when the vehicle he was driving north in the southbound lanes of Interstate 59 collided with a southbound tractor-trailer. The crash occurred at 2:30AM, three miles south of Attalla. Reyes was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, and alcohol may have been a factor. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured in the crash. The investigation into the crash is ongoing. In a separate, but related incident, according to Attalla Assistant Police Chief Ryan Condy, the first officer on the scene of Reyes’ crash was also involved in an accident. The officer was trying to investigate the crash when a lady ran into the back of his patrol car. He was not injured and was later treated at a hospital and released with only minor bruises.
