Capital Murder Case

Saturday, April 5, 2014

There are new developments tonight in the capital murder case against an Etowah County woman charged with the death of her granddaughter. In court this morning, a judge ordered prosecutors to turn over evidence about the girl's death to Joyce Garrard's defense attorneys. Garrard's attorneys told the judge that they do not have statements provided by witnesses. The judge told prosecutors that they must provide that information to the defense by Monday afternoon. The judge also granted Garrard's request to inspect and copy subpoena documents for the trial. Garrard is scheduled to stand trial in June for the 2012 death of Savannah Hardin. Prosecutors claim that Garrard forced the 9-year-old to run for 3 hours as punishment for telling a lie. She collapsed and later died.
