Janney Furnace Re-enactment in Ohatchee

Janney Furnace in Ohatchee will celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Ten Islands on Saturday April 5th and Sunday April 6th from 10:00AM until 4:00PM. The festivities will include a Civil War re-enactment that will re-play the hostilities between the Confederate Calvary and the Union Calvary the years of 1863 and 1864. The battles will commence at 2:00 PM daily and it is free of charge to observe. The Battle of Ten Islands took place when a group of 300 Confederate Calvary soldiers attempted to protect the Janney Iron Works near Ohatchee and Crowe Iron Works near Alexandria from the Union Calvary. The battle ended when the Union soldiers overtook the Confederate army and the Union soldiers destroyed both Iron Works and continued onward to Talladega. Events for the weekend at Janney Furnace will also include music, food, exhibits and demonstrations. Janney Furnace and the Confederate Memorial are located at 145 Janney Road in Ohatchee and is part of the Calhoun County Park System. It is open to the public daily from 8:00AM until dusk.
