Etowah County Special Olympics Spring Games

Today was a very special day for some athletes in our region. Etowah County hosted their Special Olympics Spring Games at Gadsden City High School. The Etowah County Sheriff’s Office, city officials, and students from all over Etowah County -gathered to celebrate athletic achievement and good sportsmanship. The Etowah County Sheriff’s Office participated by sharing in the game’s kick-off with the Special Olympics Torch Run where law enforcement officers and Olympic game athletes ran side by side for one mile into the stadium where the opening ceremonies were held. Game organizers say Special Olympics is an event where there are no losers. The 2014 Special Olympics games promote the ideals of acceptance and inclusion through sport, and showcase the talents of athletes with intellectual disabilities. The 2014 USA Games will be held June 14th through 21st in Mercer County, New Jersey.
