For the third year in a row, a group of students from Fort Payne High school takes top honors in a statewide engineering design competition. “The Fort Payne Seven,” received their award Thursday afternoon in Montgomery. The Real World Design Challenge is an aerospace and engineering design competition. 26 teams from across the state competed in the challenge. Each team received $1 million in professional engineering software as well as curriculum, training and access to mentors. They were given the task of designing a small unmanned aircraft system to support agriculture by monitoring and assessing crop conditions. The teams also had to develop business plans to present to potential investors.
