Officer-Involved Shooting in Anniston

An officer-involved shooting is under investigation in Anniston. The shooting took place in the Blue Mountain community. At 9:30 this morning, 9-1-1 received a call from someone who identified himself as “Frank.” He said there was a man walking around the area of Net Street and Twine Street with a firearm. Two Anniston police officers arrived on the scene and found Frank Johnston holding a weapon. The officers told Johnston to drop his weapon, he refused, assumed a shooting stance and then aimed the weapon at the officers. Both officers fired shots at Johnston and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Upon Investigation, it was discovered that the weapon that Johnston was brandishing was an Airsoft type firearm that was designed to look like a 1911 style firearm. Neighbors on the scene observed the incident and gave reactions to the traumatic event The investigation is ongoing.
