JSU's Tiffany Harbin Grabs Another OVC Weekly Award

After two more shutouts in a weekend sweep of Belmont, Jacksonville State senior Tiffany Harbin has been named the Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.

Harbin, the Gamecocks ace and a native of Hazel Green, Ala., grabbed her fifth OVC Pitcher of the Week honor this season and her second in a row after continuing what has been a dominant stretch against OVC pitching. She guided JSU to a three-game sweep of Belmont at University Field and into first place in the league standings with three games remaining.

She tossed a pair of two-hit shutouts against the Bruins over the weekend, including a 14-strikeout performance on Saturday that started the series. In the 3-0 series opening win, Harbin fanned eight of the first nine batters she faced and allowed just four baserunners in the seven inning gem. She then turned around and tossed another two-hitter with nine strikeouts in an 8-0, five-inning win on Sunday that gave her six complete-game shutouts in her last six starts.

Harbin has now thrown 40.2 consecutive scoreless innings to drop her earned run average against OVC foes to 0.75 and improves to 12-2 in league games this season. Her 12th shutout of the year on Sunday gives her the national lead in that category. Against OVC foes this season, she has been in the circle in 94 innings, 88 of which have been shutout frames.

Harbin's fifth Pitcher of the Week honor this season gives the Gamecocks a total of 11 OVC weekly honors this season. She and the Gamecocks will play at Alabama State at 6 p.m. on Wednesday in Montgomery before wrapping up the regular season with a three-game series at Eastern Kentucky this weekend. The set will start with a 12 p.m. CT doubleheader on Saturday before a 1 p.m. single game on Sunday.
