World War II was a hard-fought and burdensome war to countries around the world. And, one local cemetery has made it a mission to honor some of those who lost their lives during that conflict. The unique part about the German-Italian P-O-W cemetery at McClellan is that it is a place where America pays tribute to those who were once our enemies. Today, the cemetery hosted visitors from Germany who came to honor the soldiers buried there who were once school-aged friends. There are 26 Germans and 3 Italians buried at the cemetery. Some of the bodies were brought in from other places as those sites closed. The unofficial cemetery historian, Joan McKinney, put the impact of this cemetery into perspective. Eight visitors toured the cemetery, today.
