Drivers Gear Up for Talladega Weekend
The always exciting NASCAR weekend at Talladega is finally here. The top drivers in the sport have make their way back to East Alabama for the first of two annual visits. The Sprint Cup teams hit the Superspeedway Friday afternoon for practice. With near perfect weather, the track is in great condition for racing; but the drivers always say you can never let your guard down at Talladega. Defending Sprint Cup champion Jimmie Johnson has had a good season so far- he’s currently eight in points- but has yet to reach victory lane. This year’s new Chase format pretty much guarantees that he will need a win before the end of the season in order to make the cut, but he says he is not putting too much pressure on it. After his win at Daytona to start the season, he comes into the 2nd Superspeedway as the favorite to win. But he’s also the subject of tabloid headlines. On Thursday, the National Enquirer reported that he’s getting married to girlfriend Amy Reimann in a huge $2 million dollar wedding at Daytona. Juinor laughed off the notion today. For the first time Sprint Cup cars use the group qualifying system at a Superspeedway. All 47 drivers will be on the track for the first 25 minute session with the top 24 advancing to a 10 minute session then the top 12 advance to a five minute group and the fastest car starts on the pole. Below is the schedule of events this weekend.

12:10pm- Sprint Cup Qualifying
2:00pm- Aarons 312 (Nationwide Series)
