Owner Dies

The city of Gadsden mourns the loss of one of its most influential businessmen. Fifth generation car business owner Hassell Morrell Freeman has died at the age of 84. Freeman, known to Gadsden car buyers as H.M. Freeman began selling cars out of his yard and turned it into the largely successful H.M. Freeman Motors. The dealership is located at 1023 W. Meighan Boulevard. The business has been a member of the Alabama Used Car Association and has won the Quality Used Car Dealership award for independent dealers. Freeman was a Geraldine native and was drafted and sent to Korea in 1951. In his later years, he led the H.M. Freeman Singers, which included his wife and children, and sang for years with the Gadsden Ambassadors. Arrangements are being made for his funeral.
