Piedmont Boys Win 3A State Track and Field TItle

The Piedmont Bulldog boys track and field team capped off a fantastic season with the 3A state championship- giving them back to back state titles. TV24 SPORTS caught up with the champions on campus Monday afternoon. The Bulldogs had four medalist CJ Savage, Wil Mitchell, Exavyer Jackson and Denard Spears. They talked about the season and capturing the most coveted prize in high school sports- the blue trophy. Perhaps just as impressive as their state championship trophy was the Calhoun County title. The Bulldogs beat the likes of Oxford, Anniston and other top programs to win and they say it propelled their run to the big title. The Bulldogs are led by head coach Mark Mitchell who came to Piedmont after a dominating run at Cedar Bluff. Mitchell won six track and field state titles with the Tigers, and now in his two years at Piedmont, the two-time state Coach of the Year has two more trophies to the collection. Now with the foundation set, Mitchell says the program is bound for great things in the future.
